Rossiter Workout

Kerryanne carries out the Rossiter Workout on a patient's leg as an alternative to massage at Real Ease

What is the Rossiter system of structural release?

If constant pain keeps you from doing the things you love, then this workout is for you. Developed in America, this system based on a bodywork process called Rolfing and takes place on a mat, not a massage couch. You will be taken through a system of stretches that target the body’s connective tissue which shortens and tightens through injury and overuse. The more you want to get out of pain and the harder you work the better the results – which are almost instant.

What are the benefits of the Rossiter system of structural release?

It is a unique, effective, and safe two-person healing system aimed at keeping your body flexible and pain-free naturally. These stretches create space in your muscles and joints to provide freer movement, which are typically treated with hydrocortisone injections.

Is Rossiter right for me and what can I expect in a session?

Workouts are very focussed, so generally last no more than 45 minutes, and involve you lying on a mat fully clothed while the therapist uses their foot to anchor your tissue in place while you perform specific movements. You need to be able to get up and down off the floor, and it’s important tell us if you are taking any blood thinners such as warfarin, have any implants, patches, or devices such as a pacemaker, or have had any surgery. It’s also a good idea to avoid taking painkillers before you come so you can judge the amount of pressure and effort you need to use in your stretches accurately. If you have any doubts, questions, or concerns just ask us.

What do I need to wear to do a Rossiter workout?

You remain fully clothed during a Rossiter workout, and you can wear any clothing which allows you to move completely freely as you will be the one carrying out the stretches. We also recommend, like with any workout, that you bring something warm to put on afterwards.

Do I need to rest after a Rossiter workout?

No, in fact we recommend you keep on moving after a workout, so your body has a chance to integrate the stretches into your everyday movements. When you come for your workout try to park your car further away so you must walk and avoid lengthy periods of sitting throughout the rest of your day.

What sorts of injuries can a Rossiter workout help with?

Rossiter workouts aim to put space back into the body structure, so it is no longer squeezed, bulged, or trapped, making it an effective way to improve your range of movement and posture. Typically, Rossiter is used to tackle neck, shoulder, knee, hip, and elbow pain, together with conditions such as sciatica, plantar fasciitis, frozen shoulder, and tennis elbow.
